Bridge Watchkeeping

Admission level:
Candidates for certificates of competency as deck officer who are following an approved training programme, as well as junior Naval officers preparing for Bridge Watchkeeping Board examinations.

Objective:
To give participants the confidence and ability to conduct a safe navigational watch under normal everyday conditions.

Duration:
5 days

Course Content:

  • Use of rule of the road in realistic ship simulation exercises.
  • Use of passage planning in compilation of exercises.
  • Practice of watchkeeping duties in respect to maintaining a safe navigational watch.
  • Improving VHF communication skills.
  • Performing Search and rescue exercises.

Test:
No. Instructor carries out continuous evaluation and assessment.

Certification:
SAMTRA certificate endorsed Force Technology, meeting the competence requirements as outlined in the STCW convention Table A-ll/1 and Section A Vlll/2 Part 3.

Additional Information:
Course is SAMSA accredited and TETA recognised. Complies with the STCW Code regulations AII/1 and A-VII/2.
