ENS Refresher Course

Admission level:
Masters, deck officers, pilots and tug masters who require the Electronic Navigation Systems Refresher Course to revalidate their STCW certificate of competency.

Objective:
Using the technology of simulation to enhance Safety of Navigation by providing the knowledge and skills necessary to fully utilize the Electronic Navigation Systems on board modern sea-going vessels. To achieve the competencies as described in the STCW and SAMSA Codes respectively.

Duration:
3 Days

Course Content:

  • Conducting a safe passage
  • Operate basic radar equipment
  • Use the radar set as an aid to navigation
  • Use radar for collision avoidance
  • Operate and use automatic radar plotting aids for collision avoidance.
  • Obtain the ships position using satellite navigational equipment
  • Gyro Compass Advancements.
  • AIS and ECDIS operation.
  • Co-ordinate search and rescue operations

Test:
Continuous evaluation and practical assessment on Full mission bridge simulators.

Certification:
SAMTRA certificate accredited by SAMSA.

Additional Information
Course is SAMSA accredited and TETA recognised. Complies with the ENS Refresher module in the SAMSA CODE.
