Admission level:
Masters, deck officers, pilots and tug masters who require the Electronic Navigation Systems Refresher Course to revalidate their STCW certificate of competency.
Objective:
Using the technology of simulation to enhance Safety of Navigation by providing the knowledge and skills necessary to fully utilize the Electronic Navigation Systems on board modern sea-going vessels. To achieve the competencies as described in the STCW and SAMSA Codes respectively.

Course Content:
- Conducting a safe passage
- Operate basic radar equipment
- Use the radar set as an aid to navigation
- Use radar for collision avoidance
- Operate and use automatic radar plotting aids for collision avoidance.
- Obtain the ships position using satellite navigational equipment
- Gyro Compass Advancements.
- AIS and ECDIS operation.
- Co-ordinate search and rescue operations
Test:
Continuous evaluation and practical assessment on Full mission bridge simulators.
Certification:
SAMTRA certificate accredited by SAMSA.

Course is SAMSA accredited and TETA recognised. Complies with the ENS Refresher module in the SAMSA CODE.
