GMDSS Course

Admission level:
Adequate knowledge of the English language.
Computer skills.
OOW candidate.

Objective:
For the student to become conversant with the Global Maritime Distress & Safety System and its sub-systems.

To be a competent operator of radio equipment designed for the above, with particular emphasis in radio communications during Distress incidents.

Course Content
Based on the IMO Model Course 1.25, covering the four broad areas of the GMDSS, namely:

  • Maritime Mobile Service
  • Maritime Mobile Satellite Service
  • MSI
  • SAR

This is combined with practical work on simulated radio equipment.

Tests:
Written & Practical, SAMSA moderated.

Certification:
SAMSA issued GoC meeting ITU Radio Regs (Art 47)
