Auxiliary Boiler Familiarisation

Admission level:
Senior engineering cadets, Junior Engineers, Engineer Officers and Engine room Ratings.  This course is of particular benefit to those serving on vessels that are not equipped with auxiliary boiler systems.

Course Contents:

  • Introduction to different types of boilers.
  • Boiler construction details.
  • Fittings and there operation.
  • Steam plant arrangements, waste heat recovery arrangements and various sub systems.
  • Auxiliary boiler plant operation and safety.
  • Importance of watch keeping routines
  • Lay-up and repair methods

Assessment:
Instructor carries out continuous evaluation and assessment using the engine room simulators.

Course is SAMSA accredited. Complies with the South African Maritime Qualifications, Engineering Knowledge:  Module 1. STCW Code ref. Section A-III/1
