Objective:

  • To understand the various components and sub systems found in a ship Engine Room and how it all operates in unity.
  • Appreciation of safe working practices in the engineering environment of a ship.
  • To train participants in compliance with STCW requirements

Duration:
5 Days

Course Contents:

  • Introduction to the usage of an Engine Room simulator.
  • Practical familiarisation techniques upon joining a ship.
  • Understanding of Main and Auxiliary machinery operations.
  • Understandings of the various sub systems.
  • Basic plant operation and watchkeeping.
  • Importance of record keeping and administration.
  • Introduction to regulations (MARPOL, ISM, STCW, etc)
  • Ship specific procedures, checklists.

Test:
No. Instructor carries out continuous evaluation and assessment.

Course is SAMSA accredited and TETA recognised. Complies with the South African Maritime Qualifications, Engineering Knowledge: Module 1 & 2. STCW Code ref. Section A-III/1
