- To understand the various components and sub systems found in a ship Engine Room and how it all operates in unity.
- Appreciation of safe working practices in the engineering environment of a ship.
- To train participants in compliance with STCW requirements

Course Contents:
- Introduction to the usage of an Engine Room simulator.
- Practical familiarisation techniques upon joining a ship.
- Understanding of Main and Auxiliary machinery operations.
- Understandings of the various sub systems.
- Basic plant operation and watchkeeping.
- Importance of record keeping and administration.
- Introduction to regulations (MARPOL, ISM, STCW, etc)
- Ship specific procedures, checklists.

No. Instructor carries out continuous evaluation and assessment.

Course is SAMSA accredited and TETA recognised. Complies with the South African Maritime Qualifications, Engineering Knowledge: Module 1 & 2. STCW Code ref. Section A-III/1
