Refresher Course for Shore-based personnel engaged in the transport of dangerous goods, Officers and Ratings. Applicants must have completed the SAMTRA 3-day Maritime Dangerous Goods course.
Objective:
To ensure the successful application of regulations concerning the safe handling of dangerous and hazardous substances in solid, bulk, or in packaged form, on- and offshore.

Course Content:
- Classify dangerous goods and identify proper shipping name.
- Pack dangerous goods in packages.
- Mark, label or placard dangerous goods.
- Pack/unpack cargo transport unit.
- Prepare transport documents for dangerous goods.
- Offer dangerous goods for transport.
- Accept dangerous goods for transport.
- Handle dangerous goods in transport.
- Prepare dangerous goods loading/ stowage plans.
- Load/unload dangerous goods into/ from ships.
- Carry dangerous goods.
- Enforce/survey/inspect for compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
Evaluation
Practical exercises and question-answer sessions after lectures.
Certification:
SAMTRA Certificate of attendance in compliance with IMDG Code and IMO Model course.
Venue:
SAMTRA, Simon’s Town, but can be offered at external venues on request.
