TARGET GROUP:

 

This course is primarily aimed at Pleasure craft day skippers (Under 9m) and all yacht skippers up to holders of coastal skipper (Yacht).  This course replaces the Restricted Radiotelephone Operators Certificate (Marine) VHF ONLY.

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

 

Adequate knowledge of the English language. Basic Computer skills.

 

EXIT LEVEL:

 

Knowledge and skills required for the Short Range Communication Certificate.

 

ASSESSMENT:

 

Written and practical examinations – SAMSA moderated.

 

CERTIFICATE:

 

SAMSA issued certificate for successful candidates

COURSE OBJECTIVE:

 

For the student to become conversant with the new requirements for the qualification for the Short Range Certificate and an introduction to the Global Maritime Distress & Safety System and its sub-systems.

To be a competent operator of VHF radio equipment designed for the SRC including DSC, with particular emphasis in radio communications during Distress incidents.
